Structure material
The perfect structure material required to install your composite wood products.
Using the correct structure material is the without doubt the most important criteria when using composite wood profiles for the many various applications it can be utilised for. Following the correct installation procedure as set on in our installation guides or the information given on our product pages the structure will determine whether the composite profile being used will be successful in what it is designed for, a substandard structure will certainly lead to product failure.
The structure is the foundation to which the composite wood profiles are secured to and this is where the composite wood profiles get there structural integrity .Composite wood profiles on their own do not have any structural integrity with the exception of the composite hand and foot rails that can only span a certain distance as set out on the product pages without using a galvanised structural steel insert.
Fishers Decking and Flooring when it comes to inland projects (there are exceptions at the coast) would only use galvanised steel as our structural support for all our composite wood applications. Galvanised steel is a long term solution that doesn’t rust under our harsh climatic conditions and makes perfect sense when using one of our long term maintenance free composite wood products.

Galvanised Steel Structures and Framework – For Inland Projects
Inland(not at the coast)Fishers decking and Flooring only use Light weight galvanised C Channel for our deck structures as this is a long term solution to complement our quality composite wood deck planks ,we would never use timber as a deck structure which rots ,prone to decay and gets eaten by ants and termites. A galvanised steel deck structure is built to stand the test of time.
The sections of galvanised steel will differ from one deck to another, the section used is dependent on the height of the deck from ground level. For decks that exceed 1.2 mtrs off the ground the vertical support footings and bearer supports will increase as the height of the deck increases ,however the same light weight Galvanised steel C Channel will still be used as the joist supports.

Premier range 20 year guarantee solid composite wood joist
Joist dimensions
Length-5.8m (5800mm) long
Thickness- 30mm
Width-57mm
Text- For a tiled or paved surface installation this is the perfect profile. Extremely strong it can be raised from ground level of up to 40mm should your ground level not be perfectly flat, using pieces of the joist to create spacers between the ground and the joist to erect a flat deck surface This profile will not lose its shape it is extremely rigid even under our harsh African sun and can be used on our composite wood fluted panelling and wall cladding.
This Solid composite wood joist is ideal for decks that will be prone to water pooling under the deck, resistant to mould and rot it, won’t deteriorate over time and cannot be eaten by ants or termites. Slightly more expensive than our Galvanised light weight C Channel for these types of applications it is a better choice. Installed the same way as our light weight galvanised steel C Channel as set out on our decking product page for a paved or tiled installation.

Solid recycled plastic joist10 year guarantee.
Joist dimensions
Length- 1.8m (1800mm) long
Thickness -38mm
Width -38mm
This profile is recycled plastic and not composite wood .It cannot be raised off the ground surface. If raised off the ground which is where it gets it structural integrity it can lose rigidity under our harsh African sun which will cause your deck to be problematic. Using this profile ensure a perfectly flat and solid surface and it can be used with our composite wood decking, Fluted panelling and Wall cladding.
For decks that will be installed in areas that are prone to water pooling is an ideal profile as it is resistant to mould and rot, won’t deteriorate and cannot be eaten by ants or termites. Installed the same way as our light weight galvanised C Channel as set out on decking product page with only difference being as mentioned it must be fixed directly to a solid foundation with no gaps.

Note
All of the above galvanised steel tubes are used for different reasons in different applications. The section of galvanised steel tube used will be determined by what composite wood application it will be used for.
One must be sure to us the correct section of galvanised steel required for that specific application ,in most cases this would be determined by the size of the structure being built as well as the type of composite wood application . For each application there are various ways to achieve the correct result and choosing the correct structure material is key to the composite wood profiles functioning as they should, incorrect structure choice will result in product failure.
